The Baptist Churches of NSW and ACT (BCN&A) join together to assist each other in the ministries of evangelism, compassion, fellowship, worship and teaching.
Each of these ministries is seen in Acts 2:42-47
The Baptist Churches of NSW and ACT join together on the principle of autonomous local churches co-operating in fellowship to assist each other to facilitate ministry for the local church and its wider work in the ministries of -
- Evangelism including outreach to specific groups within the community, local church planting and worldwide mission through agencies such as Global Interaction (GiA);
- Compassion - demonstrating compassion, social action and justice through the local church and agencies such as Baptist Community Services and Baptist World Aid Australia (BWAA);
- Fellowship and Worship for the building of relationships within the Baptist Church family and for encouragement and prayer ministries - local, regional, state, national and international;
- Teaching - providing teaching, preaching and small group resources, theological training by Morling College and encouraging continuing education of leaders and all church members.
BCN&A exists to enhance the ministry of the local church and to provide creative leadership in those ministries which are better carried out together ie. on a co-operative basis and for which the churches provide resources.
In co-operation with the churches BCN&A conducts an extensive programme of evangelistic enterprise, church extension and development, theological training, missionary endeavour and community services. This programme is fostered by Councils and Agencies appointed by the Assembly working with BCN&A officers and staff. It is supported by voluntary contributions from local congregations and individuals as part of their Christian service and stewardship.
As the Baptist Union of NSW, BCN&A participates in the Baptist Union of Australia, the Australian Baptist Home Mission Northreach programme, Global Interaction, Aboriginal and Islander Baptist Council of Australia and Baptist World Aid Australia. Through its membership in the Baptist Union of Australia it is linked with the Baptist World Alliance, a worldwide fellowship numbering some forty-two million Baptist Church members. Altogether more than one hundred million people meet in more than one hundred and fifty-four thousand congregations.
